How can I get PDF's into my Download Center?
Question: What features have recently been added to the ICO Global Search?
4/22/2006: Since the launch of Version 2 of ICO Global Search, what has been added to the site functionality?
Solution:
During Aprill 22-23, 2006, PatentCafes Technical staff implemented some significant upgrades to ICO Suite. These upgrades will be automatically integrated throughout the ICO Global Search system: - Streamlined bulk downloading, with the capability of downloading up to 20,000 at a time in CSV or XML format
- PDF downloads up to 50 at a time
- Patent Shuttle download allowing up to 1,000 at a time within the same authority
- Extended / Automatic re-login for session timeout
- "Visited" link shows patents which have been viewed in current session results list
- Pro-Data extract option. The following data elements will be available in this option:
- PCT States
- Legal Status
- Abstract (English)
- Initial Claims
- Number of Forward Citations
- Number of Backward Citations
- Number of Non-Patent Citations
- LSA Concept Cluster
- Forward Citations
- Backward Citations
- Non-patent Citations
- Family Patents (XML)
When Forward, Backward, or Non-patent Citations has been selected for CSV output, the system creates a multi-line entry for that patent, allowing pivot-table reporting. This option is available as an add-on to your current subscription. Some other features have also been added recently: - PDF bibliographic summary reports available using check-boxes on the results set. A sample of this report is available here: http://www.patentcafe.com/actionitems/appnote/apps_BicycleWheelBiblioRpt.pdf
- Alert new features:
- "Search within" your alert
- Integrated analytic graphs
- Cluster drill-down
- "Blog" collaboration on alert results
- Multi-user capability, with password control
- Biblio report option for alert patents
- ProData and bulk download integration

Question: How do I start a recording session?
I can't seem to get any new projects or clients added in the new version. How do I do this?
Solution:
There are two ways to do this in version 2 of ICO Global Search.
First is from the control panel, which appears when you first log in.
Choose the "Start / Stop Recording This Session" link from the "Search Session" tab on the control panel. It looks like this:
The next screen you see looks like this:
You can add the client in the "Create and Track a New Project" area. Note that the Reference Number (Ref. Nbr) is a required field. When you've entered the data, make sure the "Select" option is chosen, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You'll see this:
Click on the "Go" button. It will save your project and start the session at the same time.
The second way is very similar, but accessed through a pop-up window on the search page. First, click on the "Record" link at the top of the search page:
That pops up a window very similar to the one in the control panel. Follow the same instructions above, and you will be recording on a new project.
As with the previous version, you can select an existing project by using the "Select" option in the correct line for the project you're working on, and click on the "Go" button at the bottom of the page.
Question: Can't Access my Download files
I'm getting a message similar to
Your account has been disabled
or
Login is not allowed
When I try to access my file manager. What do I do now?
Solution:
This can happen if your passwords between the ICO Search and the download center get out of "synch" and repeated logins are tried to the download center.
It is actually part of the security of the download center to disable the login when too many failures have taken place.
Drop an email to help@patentcafe.com to have your download center account reset so you can access it.
It's a good idea to reset your password to the whole site at the same time so you're starting from fresh. Follow the instructions in the related issue below.
Question: How can I get PDF's into my Download Center?
It appears that the only way to obtain PDFs is to open them one at a time in the browser and save them to disk from the browser.
Isn't there an easier way?
Solution:
There are several ways to download PDFs:
1. Check the box to select patents for download. Choose next page or choose "Download Checked" when you have completed checking the patents you want. The download center will allow you to choosed PDFs for selected patents.
2. Go to your “My Account” tab and choose Account Preferences. Find the preference for Select "how to handle PDF Display Preference:". Choose "Mark PDFs to Move to Download Manager". After you’ve finished clicking on the PDF’s, go to your download center and choose the PDF type of download.
3. Develop a list of patents to retrieve PDFs in your notepad or excel. The format of the number should be “CC nnnnnnn”, where CC is Country Code (i.e., US, WO, EP, etc) and nnnnnnn is the document number. Go to Patent Search, Patent Shuttle. Paste your list of patents in, and choose Export, then click the Search button. You will be able to choose download to PDF from this path as well.
